Mended Little Hearts and HUG

What Is ‘Hearts Unite the Globe’ or HUG?

By Anna Jaworski

You may have seen a logo that is a globe with a circle of hearts hugging it. That’s the logo for Hearts Unite the Globe: A Nonprofit Organization for the Congenital Heart Defect (CHD) Community.

This organization was started 20 years ago by a group of heart parents and grandparents. The purpose was to inform and inspire the CHD community by creating helpful resources. Originally, that was done with the development of a website that boasted more than 100 pages of free information.

Since 2013, HUG’s main project has been the creation of the first long-standing podcast devoted entirely to the CHD community, Heart to Heart with Anna. This weekly podcast has new programs that air on Tuesdays at noon Eastern Standard Time. Anna is currently wrapping up her 12th season and has been discussing organ donation and transplantation.

HUG still has an impressive amount of information available on its website, which has grown to include the information about the podcast.

In 2017, HUG created another podcast — Heart to Heart with Michael: A Podcast for the Bereaved Community. This podcast features Host Michael Liben, the bereaved father of Liel, a daughter born with a CHD who developed epilepsy, which ultimately caused her demise.

Most recently, HUG has joined forces with Mended Little Hearts, holding hands in our quest to empower the CHD community.

Anna Jaworski, the Host of Heart to Heart with Anna will be interviewing members of Mended Little Hearts on her podcast to help spread awareness of MLH, its leaders and events. If you are interested in being on a HUG podcast episode, it’s easiest to reach Anna Jaworski on Facebook, Twitter or LinkedIn.
