Sleep – Mended Hearts

Sleep

Most people understand that getting a good night of sleep helps you feel more energized and alert the next day, but many people dont realize that poor sleep can also lead to serious health problems, including cardiovascular disease. According to the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention), most adults need at least 7 hours of sleep a night, but more than one in three dont get the recommended amount of sleep. Adults who sleep less than 7 hours each night are more likely to say they have had health problems, including heart attack, asthma, and depression. Some of these health problems raise the risk for heart disease, heart attack, and stroke. If you are struggling to get a good night’s rest, or you want to better understand the relationship between your heart and sleep, MHI has a library of resources to help you learn more.
