Many people think older adults are the only age group affected by cardiovascular disease, but did you know that children may be born with certain heart conditions? These are called congenital heart defects or congenital heart disease. Some children also get heart disease at an early age. For example, some families have very high cholesterol and children may be diagnosed with Familial Hypocholesterolemia, or FH. Still other children may get a virus or bacteria that affects the heart. Even for adults with heart disease, the entire family may be affected. The good news is today there are many helpful resources for parents and families.
