Key Facts
- There are three types of strokes
- Ischemic Stroke- this is the most common type of stroke. It happens when the brains blood vessels become narrowed or blocked causing severely reduced blood flow.
- Hemorrhagic Stroke- occurs when a blood vessel in your bran leaks or ruptures. Brain hemorrhages can result from many conditions that affect the blood vessels.
- Transient Ischemic Attack- often known as a ministroke. This is a temporary period of symptoms similar to the ones you would have in a stroke.
What Causes a Stroke?
- There are two main causes of a stroke:
- A blocked artery
- Leaking or bursting of a blood vessel
Signs & Symptoms
- Learn and share the F.A.S.T. warning signs- Face Drooping. Arm Weakness. Speech Difficulty. Time to call 911
- Sudden numbness or weakness in the face, arm, or leg, especially on one side of the body.
- Sudden confusion, trouble speaking, or difficulty understanding speech.
- Sudden trouble seeing in one or both eyes.
- Sudden trouble walking, dizziness, loss of balance, or lack of coordination.
- Sudden severe headache with no known cause.
