A stroke occurs when the blood supply to part of your brain is interrupted or reduces, preventing brain tissue from getting oxygen and nutrients. Knowing stroke risk factors can prevent you from having a stroke. A healthy diet and exercise can help prevent a stroke. Drinking alcohol in moderation, quitting tobacco use and managing your weight are also ways of preventing a stroke from occurring. Men and women both can experience a stroke. Stroke is the #1 leading cause of death in men and #3 leading cause of death in women.
